About avantaknits

18 V-Neck Cardigan 3Mildmannered cubicle drone by day, fierce yarn fiend, bookworm, and thespian by night. Wife, daughter, sister, friend. World’s best auntie. Nerd.

I’m a native Californian who has deliberately chosen to live in the Deep South.  I guess you could say I have steel magnolia aspirations.

Other pertinent bits:  sober since age 29 (sobriety date July 26, 1991 — you do the math); voracious reader; nerd; non-practicing Methodist; soprano; liberal; actor (regional theatre); nerd; ex-smoker; wannabe gardener; introvert; nerd; This Old House fan and home improvement show junkie. And let’s not discuss that serious addiction to Stanley Kubrick films, the History Channel, or Stargate SG-1.

Oh, and I want to run away with The Doctor. At first, the runaway partner of choice was the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant). Then the Eleventh (Matt Smith) won me over with his child-like joy in the midst of sorrow. I’m also a huge fan of the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and have thoroughly enjoyed the grown-up Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) since his regular series debut.

Did I mention nerd?

Ahem. Soooo, anyway….back to the crafty-type content.

My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was a young girl.  In November 2006, I returned to the art of crochet after a 20+ year hiatus, and picked up knitting needles at the same time. There’s only one drawback: I spend a lot less time reading now.

And don’t listen to my husband.  There’s no such thing as too much yarn. Or too many books.

  1. LOL to the bio…..audio books maybe?? If I knew you had this blog it had escaped me, but I have now subscribed so it won’t do that again! You might even get me knitting again!

    1. Hi Linda, somehow I missed this comment when you posted it. Thanks for subscribing! If you start knitting again, you must share projects and pics. It’s the law. 🙂

(I have an irrational prejudice against audio books. Don’t know why.)

  2. I had to giggle when I read your home page… I used to skip school so I could stay home and knit! Now I have the urge with some frequency, but having taken my love of books to being a Literary Strategist helping other writers write, publish and market their books… alas – there is little time for much else!
